Interesting to see the timings for the select committee on Tuesday and whose camp some appear to be in

The input in the written evidence is more telling than the place in the running order wouldn't you agree?

I also note that it is the first hearing - are more to be invited - or is this the first hearing of Two, or many?

There could be more than one reading it that way.

Then again, I suppose the committee know what its doing, given the biased slant of the make up of those giving oral evidence.

Will anything come out of the findings of the sub-committee... or will it be just more smoke and mirrors to give the impression that union-sponsored MPs are earning their keep.. the taxi and private hire trades are a living book that is constantly evolving as technology evolves.... it is quite obvious from reading the submissions of certain people that they have no knowledge at all regarding the every day running of private hire and Hackney's...... which leads me to wonder when a national training course will be put in place by this government.... the one thing that stands out repeatedly is the inability of licensing officers regarding the management of hackney and private hire .

FFS its like reading the entire encyclopedia britannica all 27 volumes at once
This applies to all.
Licence price, should be set by the government
Colour of vehicle, owners choice
Type of vehicle, owners choice but with min standard of vehicle and engine size, (1400 CC with 4 doors and a boot capable of taking 4 passengers luggage)
Vehicle seating size up to 16 seats as long as the driver has D1 on his dvla licence
Issue of all drivers and vehicle licences by VOSA or DVLA
Tariffs, no meters, Max tariffs set by VOSA or Traffic commissioner, leaving owners to discount
Those with 3 vehicles or more must provide a WAV for every 3 saloon or other type vehicle (eg owner has 12 vehicles 3 must be WAV)
This would get rid of the all WAV policy imposed by some councils.
PH no roof signage only door stickers
Anyone care to add to this???

Skippy,

I take account of the fact you appear to be mad

A national license price would have to take account of the cost nationally, in other words you could be susidising some area that currently undercharges.

VOSA are currently struggling to cope with buses, do you think the could cope with taxis and private hire?

Those with 3 vehicles or more must provide? The license is an individual entity.......besides that idea is open to abuse.

No meters?

I would like to add somthing else, but you'd take offence

If the government said the price is FEG £100 per vehicle and a drivers licence that lasts for 5 years is £50 would you object to that ??
Given that it costs no more to run a vehicle from lands end to john o'groats except for insurance costs and fuel whats the matter with a national licence price the DVLA dont have regional variations for a drivers licence or the BBC for a TV one do they

If I can disect this a bit at a time.

You grab the figure of £100, from where exactly?

You also grab the figure of £50 and tell me it's for 5 years.........again from where?

You again grab the figures for vehicle costs.....which in my view are incorrect.

The DVLA issue a license, they dont revoke it.

Interesting what Northumberland say in their submission.

9. The net effect of both the Berwick and the Stockton judgment is to recognise it as being lawful to use a hackney carriage for a considerable period, so long as that it does not amount to predominant (more than 51%) or exclusive use, outside of the area in which it is licensed to ply for hire in accordance with Section 37 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847. This in turn has the potential effect, subject to the extent of use, of vehicles being used outside of their own districts in such a way that undermines the entire concept of local policies and conditions to support local control.

So if a taxi licensed by Northumberland doesn't work within their boundary for 51% of the time, those taxis are operating/working illegally.

So why the f*** are they re-licensing them? :?

Yes something will come out of it, but there is a chance that what does come out isn't what those requesting it wanted.

By a very long stretch.

I think one of the good things to come out of this is a greater understanding and better links between some of the National Bodies.
