Yes but who is to say that the resulting legislation won't be adopted by the scottish parliament

I cant see it happening that way , The SNP run Government up here seems to Relish in doing things as differently as they can from the rest of the UK in order to create a false perception that it already is Semi independent and that it can do things better for itself and not just copy the English.....

So Skippy, how is your Diary? We need all the help we can get!

Dont need a diary, just a few hours and things will be in black and white and sorted.
1, drive what you want, and any colour
2, licence fees £50 all in
3 1 enhance crb required as long as the driver stays in the trade
4, any PH caught picking up illegally will have there car crushed in front of them.
5 No zones
6, Anyone applying for a licence must have held a UK drivers licence for 3 years, must do a local knowledge test, and speak fluent english
7, 2 vehicle tests from 6 years, if new no test required until 1 years old
8, any owner requiring a driver must employ that driver,
9, No airport or station fees to be paid, the public will do all the moaning and get that sorted
10, every vehicle must have a meter set at a national rate.

There that did not take long, now whats next, right,
1 All illegal foreigners can feck off home, your not getting a house, dole or any other hand outs

CC:- just because it's currently being researched for the Westminster Parliament does not mean that Holyrood will not produce an, almost, mirror image. About 3 years down the line.

You forgot to mention that instead a bale of hay in the boot all taxis must have a tin of polish to keep their halos shiny

Has anyone - apart from Birmingham who dashed into print - any idea of the take being made by their Local Authorities, or even off the record feelings of Licensing Officers?

I get the impression that they are not chuffed either.

I think they find some of the suggestions in the report unworkable and unenforceable.

Or perhaps that means they just don't like change and prefer doing things their own way. :?

Well, they are worried of losing their powers to regulate hackney cab numbers because of traffic and congestion issues.

Or perhaps they're worried that the Sword of Damocles that they have over the trade will be removed, thus making it more difficult to keep them in line :D

Remind me how much more congestion does a taxi do than a PH?

No flies on you hey Mr Skippy41!!

If everyone is charging a nationally set taximetered fare, you'll have more scope for discounting your fares and your discount rate could even rise from your normal 25% of the metered fare to perhaps as much as a 33% discount.

You crafty bar steward!!

You little devel you found me out

The reason behind having a national meter rate is to stop the likes of some company's like Addison lee, and others from charging extortionate call out rates, as the fares set would be the maximums that can be charged, owners or drivers are then free to discount from the price shown on the meter, and if every hack and PH had a meter, it puts everyone on a level playing field to start with.
