I'm quite sure John Griffin would be p*ssing himself laughing if he could get is shiny galaxy's HC status and still work in the capital, in actual fact, I'd wager he'd pay £250K for that......although in fairness, he's already paid that hasn't he?

Ah, yes, I wondered why you'd used 'waiver' instead of 'wager' in another thread.

And why Charles recently caused considerable bemusement and amusement by using 'to' instead of 'too'.

And you're, not your.

And it's it's, not Its. Indeed since it's the same sentence shouldn't it be it's, ie without the capital letter?

And before you say it, that's three sentences I've begun with 'and'. :D

Gosh, that must be the most pedantic point on proper English in the history of TDO.

Hence my pedantry above.

For those suffering from an irony bypass, I suspect taxeman means 'amused' and 'feign'.

My "Pedantry" (as you put it) was prompted by another, what your excuse? Now put that tiny thing away and stop waving it about!

As a Trolling admin, your attempt is even more amusing [-X [-X

My 'excuse' is that the original post that you took exception to wasn't in fact pedantry at all, but just a bit of gentle and subtle humour.

To that extent pointing out that you are dyslexic would have been an entirely adequate response, but of course you didn't quite leave it at that, so what's sauce for the goose....

I don't normally point out things like that - of course if we all did then we'd do little else - but I do sometimes enjoy poking fun at those who do, particularly when their own efforts are a bit less than word perfect.

Ah, so humour becomes pedantry turns into trolling depending on who's doing it?

And I can't see what difference it makes if it's an Admistrator doing it, but please note that my administrative functions are extremely limited - emergencies only, most of the time - and are generally confined to editing my own posts to correct my mistakes, which might otherwise attract the attention of the pedants. 8-[

Oh, and with some irony I did use my administrative capacity to split this thread the other night and thus make it more relevant to the sections in question, but the vast majority of the time I'm just an ordinary member/poster like yourself.

More to the point, if I was responsible for adminstering the forum, most of the racist, homophobic, misogynistic, sociopathic, misanthropic, threatening, bullying, semi-literate, slapdash, dangerously ill-informed nonsense that's posted on here would never see the light of day. :D

As would posts not conforming to basic rules of netiquette, for example those quoting the entirety of a lengthy previous post to add something a fraction of the length.

A better way to set (fairs) fares would be to have a national formula as (apposed) opposed to actual (fair) fare. This way the (fair) fare could reflect local living costs. It would be easy to raise (fairs) fares and implement nationally, just stipulate that each authority does the numbers for an April 1st implementation.
Original post amended in red for the benefit of the pernickety pair CC and CtF

There already is such a fare increase formula and it's known as The Brighton Formula.

We use it in Brum and it involves using National Statistics Online to tailor fare applications to the average income in a given area, which NSO can supply. It also uses the Automobile Association website figures for fuel increases in your area, which are published monthly.

The formula is quite lenghthy to process but wothwhile. And councils can't really argue against it because of its simple logic.

But if you don't have the correct level of fare to start with, then it can be counter-productive, because you are building on your starting point fare and compounding any incorrectness year on year.

Actually the Brighton Formula was taken from the London Formula...

I happen to suffer from dyslexia, :-({|= so fare, fair and Fayre can sometime be difficult to remember. Rather like were and where.

Always mused at attempts to fain intellect.

I was taking the p1$$ out of CC and CtF not you, as I stated.

With regard to the Brighton Formula; it bears no resemblence to the London Formula.

In London they recalculate all running costs every year and it's based on an old Home Office formula going back to the 1980's or so.

Brum has used both formulae in the past and I have worked on and with both.

The major difference between the two is that the London Formula recalculates all the vehicle costs year on year, whereas the Brighton Formula just takes one figure for the vehicle running costs from the Automobile Association website. The Brighton Formula saves a lot of work.

BTW, I too am dyslexic, but didn't find out until I was 42 years old.

Always remember DYSLEXIA RULES KO!

Humour is subjective and is often lost in translation, especially when you aren't familiar with another members posting style

I apologize Brummie, thought you were poking fun at my expense. Thanks for clarifying the formula

Indeed, and they're the kind of clever dicks that I like taking down a peg or two - it's not done gratuitously. I'm never pedantic about grammar etc of others unless they're doing it to third parties. A bit like taking on the playground bullies, I always think.

You just got a bit precious at CC's subtle humour, and got all pedantic in return, then when others pointed out your own mistakes you started moaning about trolls and the like.

Hardly unusual in these parts. Can dish it out, but can't take it back :D

Anyway, feel free to put me on your 'ignore' list.

Mines is growing all the time :D
