Ah, so you haven't asked them all, and you concede there are drivers who would want a plate.

Wait a minute, you say some drivers would like a plate, but also that they know there's too many.

Make up your mind, or are you trying to make their minds up for them

Don't make yourself look any more dafter than you already are.

I think you're the one for unanswered questions ... and if you're a real taxi driver you wouldn't keep harping on about abuse, taxi drivers are thick skinned..... you're just wet behind the ears.....

I think what he means is that you have a drum, it's called 'derestriction', you bang it like kcuk and have broken countless drumsticks banging your derestriction drum.

And despite having banged that drum all these years, your still not in the orchestra and not even on any waiting list to join an ensemble, let alone an orchestra!!

Well you don't seem to have much of a thick skin when it comes to your precious restricted numbers

And it's the 'real taxi driver' nonsense to someone who hasn't driven one for years :D

Real taxi drivers

And Mr T knows them all, what they're thinking, their personality, blah, blah

Typical baron mentality towards the serfs, but perhaps the little empire's now that bit more precarious, hence getting a bit tetchy

Gosh, an interesting analogy for the cartel mentality :D

And you and Mr T bang which drum constantly about what?

You and Mr T's problem isn't banging drums, it's what side of the orchestra you're on.

I know a lot of people think all drivers want is to own their own taxi and earn a living, and in the most part that is true. The most important thing to a driver is to earn a living and with that in mind if they have the opportunity of a plate you think they'll jump at it but what you don't seem to realise is the drivers may have done the math and come to the conclusion that it is better to rent in the current climate than it is to have the expense of a new vehicle on their hands as well. I know you're going to say they should have that choice, but, I don't agree and it doesn't matter how many times you say it I still won't agree unless there is a significant unmet demand and it is managed growth. Some people need protecting from themselves and the illusion spun by the beaters of deregulation drum

Which again has got nothing to do with whether or not current PHV drivers would like to pick up off the streets given the chance - there's a whole host of other issues in there like ownerhip, different vehicle requirements etc.

I'm not sure how many times I should have to write this but no they would not all like to pick up on the streets. It's a forum not a court house so I don't have to give numbers, names, addresses etc I just know because I have been told by drivers. You don't have to believe me cos I don't give a feck if you do.

It is blatant lack of knowledge regarding the taxi trade that shows him up for what he is just a child pretending to be an adult.... whose daddy probably drives a private hire car.

His knowledge is the type of knowledge you get when listening to your dad at the end of a shift on a private hire vehicle

I hear people allready saying ,i dont care ill get a plate.I think they are thinking that it will be worth something and they will be able to earn a living ! Dusty your the one that bangs on about everyone elses area, and knows everything about it.Thats the only thing what makes me curious of what backwater sh1thole you work ? I dont really think i know the workings of the whole countrys taxi fleet ,but your mantra makes you sound like you do ? You seem to know best. Why would some councils keep restrictions do you think ? Why would some councils go down the route of re-restriction ? You dont think maybe because it works do you ? Stop fretting about values of them, because your the only one i hear about that.
