One of the things that leapt out of the summary for me was this and how would it work would every owner of a hackney carriage have to have an operators license as well as a plate

How would that work where vehicles are rental vehicles from a rental company or even an insurance loan car

Why is there a need for this as I see it the system works well enough without having a seperate license or have i misunderstood this

Hackney radio systems don't need an operator's licence... but they're asking maybe they should have one.

That I know because I run one all hackney fleet (owner drivers) that is straight forward but what I am wondering is are the proposals just for "radio circuits" or applying to the vehicles many of which are one man bands

I will be sensible for once.... the Law Commission have had a massive amount of proposals presented to them..... for them to be fair to everyone they have to list them and are asking for your view... the responses to this will formulate their findings...... if nobody responds then they will draw their own conclusions..... and I have no doubt that the private hire sector will be responding fully( but that will be for the company's), the thousands of private hire drivers will not have a voice..... what is needed now is for the thousands of individual drivers to respond ( separately) as well as the national associations....

may I suggest that the Law Commission only has a team of three ..... if you were to organise responses from all areas.... you would probably have 30 -40,000 replies each requesting confirmation of receiving their reply... overwhelm them... make it a blood less fight....

I would imagine it will be similar to PH op licenses, a license to operate a certain number of vehicles.

This consultation is also going out to the general public... which would mean brothers, sisters mother's, father's ,anties and uncles and friends.... take one well-thought-out reply. take one photo copier. aske people to read and sign if they agree.. collect replies together and post.. take a small collection from the local taxi trade.. postage... remember to ask them to confirm they have received your reply.... phase one....

ps... I like to make people think for themselves.....
