Apparently the LC will be rolling in to town for a meeting with the council and the taxi association. I wonder what will be on the agenda? |

Of course they can put what they like on the agenda, but the trade in the 25% of councils that still restrict will want to talk about just the one issue. And it won't be the price of bread. |

Or the PH owner/drivers not able to license a taxi through restrictions? As for the PH barons, well those chaps love the restricted taxi market, as they know they hold the cards in relation to PH owner/drivers. However the LC plans (as of their report date) liberates said serfs, both taxi and PH versions.

Quality is what I meant, wherever they've put in so called quality controls i.e. a new WAV it hasn't worked either, nor is the point about higher standards. Too be honest you do have some fair points, but why are they having meetings again if they were so sure of the path they were following? |

The LC alluded to these meetings in the e-mail they sent Alex, and in that e-mail they say it's the first time they have undertaken this approach. I have my own views, and hopefully I'm right.

Restricted deregulation The word deregulation has been proved to be a misledaing one, which does beg the question as to why people use it. However I will use it to explain what is being proposed by the LC. It's the deregulation of restrictions on taxi numbers, not a deregulation on taxi driver/vehicle conditions. Can't really believe you didn't know that.

Can't really believe you didn't know that. Whether you call it 'deregulation of restriction' or whether you call it 'de-restriction' it's effects are the same. There was very little by way of driver standards discussed by the LC so it's not likely that much will come from that idea. If driver standards were high then you wouldn't have to worry about restricting vehicle licences. The idea of deregulation is to make things easier not more difficult, it is to ensure that the 'free market' is free of restriction to trade. That to me would mean no borders, basic standards and a general free for all so long as the vehicle has passed it's Mot and the driver can drive using a satnav. Operators will only need a license to operate, which will be without borders. In general a driver won't need to know where they're going because a satnav will take them there, it's not very professional but it's free of restriction. I think you will find that the LC remit was to deregulate the conditions for both drivers and vehicles, that includes any restriction of numbers. |
