How much is all this costing?

Is it £50,000, £60,000 or more?

But one thing is for certain, those that Sussex calls 'the ones with the white wigs' will be holidaying well this year. :(

COUNCIL IN U-TURN ON TAXI ACTION

12:20 - 22 January 2004

Plymouth City Council was today forced to withdraw threats of legal action against drivers working for an unlicensed taxi firm in an embarrassing U-turn. The authority has been forced to give an undertaking to a High Court judge not to withdraw the badges of cabbies at Silverline.

Licensing chiefs have also vowed not to threaten drivers with action through media interviews.

Silverline will now take legal action to win compensation for damage to business, with the cost of lost business estimated at £1,260 a week.

The council agreed to meet the costs of yesterday's hearing in London.

Company lawyer Michael Hayman said it was a 'humiliating climbdown' for the city council.

The authority gave an undertaking before the High Court not to take action against drivers or director Lawrence Brown, who is applying for the operator's licence. The council promised to hold off until Mr Brown's appeal against the council's refusal of the licence is heard in crown court.

Mr Justice Stanley Burnton approved the settlement two days after an interim injunction against the council had been granted.

A district judge sitting in magistrates court initially refused the appeal before Christmas.

Council legal and licensing chiefs responding by telling the Herald it would shut the company down - because it is against the rules for a taxi firm to run without an operator's licence.

You have to wonder;
a) When will this all end, and b) when will the council read the law books?

Just this part of the action will cost;
Two sets of barristers and lawyers, two days in the High Court. Along with the loss of earnings from the operator.

Not a lot of change out of ten grand. :( :( :(

Sussex I am singularly unimpressed, either your maths is lousy, or you have forgotten the fees.

Barrister court time £1,600 per hour = 6x2x £1,600 =£19,200
Case Reading about £3000, x 2 = £6,000
2 Junior Baristers £1,000 per hour x2 X6 = £12,000
2 Instructing Solicitors £10,000

=£47,200

£1,600 an hour, really :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

I can get you the likes of Mr Button or Mr Maddox for less than £2,000 a day.

Yes that's right a day. :shock:

I have always had the view that they should get less, cos they sit on their bums most of the time.

But they don't, they get the same. :wink:
