Oh the joys of driving a taxi in Greenock
But at least the driver wasn't the victim here.
But your occasional reminder why there aren't many women driving taxis in the likes of Greenock*. Or anywhere really. And, ironically, in view of the sex of the pair here.
But, of course, it's all those toxic and entitled males driving taxis who are the real problem
*To be fair, I've never been in Greenock in my life, so it might be full of female taxi drivers and happy clappy folks more generally
Doubt it, somehow
(And wouldn't be surprised if there's another big issue somewhere lurking in the background here, but which isn't mentioned in the article. But flats, closies, doors being battered down and people fighting does bring to mind a certain, er, culture that I recall well from my 25 years living in Dundee

Woman fined after fight in back of Greenock taxihttps://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/new ... nock-taxi/A WOMAN has been fined after she grabbed another woman by her hair and accused her of robbing her flat while in the back of a taxi in Greenock.Fiona Lewsley, 42, had gone to check on a flat she owned in Wellington Street while visiting a friend in the town on May 24, 2024.
When she arrived, she encountered an acquaintance leaving the property through the common close.
Lewsley, described as being ‘agitated and angry' at the time, took hold of the woman and walked her down the stairs and out to the street.
The woman – who said she believed she was welcome at the flat – had previously called a taxi, which was waiting outside the building.
Both women entered the back of the taxi, where Lewsley shouted and swore at the complainer.
She grabbed her by the hair and told the driver: “She’s just after robbing my flat.”
A fight ensured between the pair, with the complainer also grabbing hold of Lewsley’s hair.
Lewsley again accused the woman of stealing from her flat, which she continued to deny.
The women eventually exited the taxi and continued to fight on the street.
The taxi driver saw Lewsley on top of the complainer as he drove away from the scene.
A neighbour reported the incident to police having overheard the disturbance in the street.
Lewsley initially faced an allegation of assault and robbery, but this week pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm at Greenock Sheriff Court.
She admitted shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner and engaging in a stand-up fight.
Defence solicitor Gerry Keenan told the court his client believed the complainer - and two other individuals who were present in the close - had ‘no right’ to be at the property.
He added: “It’s her position that entry to the premises was affected by force - as a consequence to which, there was damage to the door.
“She was concerned that restitution should be made for the damage to the door.”
Mr Keenan said Lewsley’s actions were the result of ‘shock, surprise and anger’.
He told Sheriff James Varney: “She perhaps let herself down to some extent, but I think one can well understand why she herself was in a state of fear or alarm and why she lost her temper.”
Sentencing Lewsley, Sheriff Varney said: “You should consider yourself very lucky.
"The original indictment may well have resulted in a custodial sentence for you.”
Lewsley was fined a total of £360 for the offence.
