Colchester Uber driver denies running over customer

https://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/258805 ... -customer/

A taxi driver with more than 15 year’s experience has denied running over a customer at a busy supermarket car park in Colchester.

Walid Khan, 52, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday following an incident in June last year at the Tesco Superstore in Greenstead Road.

Khan previously denied dangerous driving and assaulting a person and causing actual bodily harm, as well as failing to stop after an accident before Colchester Magistrates’ Court in January.

Before the Ipswich Court, he reiterated his pleas, saying he was not guilty of the charges against him.

The court was shown footage captured by the supermarket’s CCTV system, which showed the incident, when Khan was driving a grey Skoda Octavia.

Adam Budworth, defending, said Khan was a taxi driver with a five-star rating on the hire platform Uber and had around 15 years of experience.

Khan was released on unconditional bail and will face a jury in 2027.

I hope the CCTV evidence hasn't been edited because it sounds as if this is the main evidence for the prosecution.

And odd remark to make, Edders, unless there's some evidence to suggest there might be some skullduggery at play here [-(

Anyway, the piece makes it sound like it wasn't just a straightforward driving without due care and attention sort of thing, and that there was more of an element of malice involved :?

I suspect the CCTV is via the store.

As for evidence, I would assume the customer's evidence will be quite useful. :-$

I assumed he was a random supermarket customer, but your responses made me think the victim here may have been a customer of the driver's :-o

In which case I'd have used the term passenger, or whatever, but who knows?
