There's an extract from the dashcam footage via the link below, although it doesn't really show much (and certainly not the hammer or the actual assault as far as I can see), and there doesn't seem to be sound. And doesn't really show a whole lot more than the photo below. Although I doubt they'd release footage of the actual assault for the press.
Presumably not an Uber driver, though, with £90 stuck under the floormat
Not that disclosing that particular detail might give potential robbers any ideas, like
Taxi driver brutally attacked in Wigan after he's sent to 2am bookinghttps://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... c-33484063The victim was working a night shift in Wigan on December 29 when he was suddenly targeted by two masked thugshttps://i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.c ... _TAXI3.jpghttps://i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.c ... AXIJPG.jpgA taxi driver was brutally attacked with a hammer and robbed by a pair of masked thugs in Wigan after accepting a booking. The horrific incident was caught on dashcam footage.
During the early hours of December 29, the victim was working a night shift in his cab, a black Hyundai Ioniq. At around 1.55am, he was allocated a booking on New Street, in Platt Bridge. He attended and waited but no customer appeared, a court heard.
While he remained parked, two males then approached the vehicle. One opened the passenger door, and the second opened the driver’s door. Thomas Stewart, 29, was positioned at the passenger side and his associate, who has not yet been identified, was armed with a hammer.
A court heard how the attackers grabbed the victim’s mobile phones from the cradle and threatened him with the weapon. A struggle followed, during which Stewart searched the vehicle’s central console.
Stewart demanded, “Where is the money?” as the victim was struck on the hand with the hammer. The armed accomplice then hit him again on the right calf. The pair later found cash hidden beneath the floor mat, making off with £90.
The victim's car keys were thrown to the floor as the offenders ran from the scene. Stolen phones were recovered by officers nearby, Greater Manchester Police said. Officers later obtained dashcam footage from inside the taxi, shared with the Manchester Evening News, which captured the incident as it unfolded and showed the criminals running away from the scene.
Stewart was arrested at his home at Mannion House, Scholes, on January 8 this year. He was convicted of robbery and was jailed on Friday (February 20) for four years at Bolton Crown Court.
The second male, believed to be the individual armed with the hammer, has not yet been identified or charged. Anyone with information about his identity is urged to contact police on 101 or via LiveChat
In a statement, Police Constable Richard Kelsall said: “Robbery, intimidation and violent behaviour have absolutely no place in Greater Manchester, and we remain committed to protecting every member of our community from those who choose to cause harm.
“No one should feel threatened while simply carrying out their work or going about their daily lives, and we will always take decisive action against offenders who believe they can act without consequence. Our officers work tirelessly to investigate these incidents, support victims, and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and brought before the courts to face the full consequences of their actions.”
