Hastings Taxi driver charged with rape

A taxi driver has been charged with rape.

Sussex Police said on April 13, a woman in her 30s reported to officers in Hastings that she had been raped the night before by a man who followed her into her home address after driving her home.

She was supported by specialist officers and a suspect was identified and arrested the same day.

Abdulhamid Alammar, 34, of Muriel Way in St Leonards, was subsequently arrested and charged with rape and sexual assault by penetration.

He has also been charged with a count of sexual assault by touching in relation to a separate report made by another victim in 2023.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before a court, to be confirmed, on May 13.

Detective Inspector Carol Shoesmith, of East Sussex Safeguarding Investigation Unit, said: “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure all victims of rape and sexual assault are supported and receive the justice they deserve.

“Please report any crimes or incidents to us online, via 101 or by dialling 999 in an emergency. You will be heard, believed and supported.”

A self-employed taxi driver from Hastings has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences following a trial.

Abdulhamid Alammar, 34, of the Baldslow area of St Leonards on Sea, was convicted of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity following a trial at Lewes Crown Court. The offences took place in Hastings in late 2024.

The jury found him not guilty of false imprisonment.

The court heard that on the evening of 29 November 2024, a woman in her 30s had booked a taxi home from a friend’s address. She was collected by Alammar, who instead of driving her to her requested destination, drove her to a secluded location. There he sexually assaulted her.

The offences came to light when officers were investigating a separate sexual assault reported in April 2025 by another woman in Hastings.

Once the November incident was disclosed to police, the victim was supported by specially trained officers and an investigation was launched.

Alammar was arrested and charged in relation to the November incident. At the time, he was already remanded in custody charged with the April 2025 allegations.

He faced trial over the April offences in October 2025 and was convicted of sexual assault and acquitted of rape and sexual assault by penetration. He remained remanded in custody pending trial for the November offences.

On Friday (6 March) following a trial at Lewes Crown Court, Alammar was found guilty of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity in relation to the November 2025 incident. He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced in relation to both convictions at Lewes Crown Court, on a date to be confirmed.

Detective Constable Christina Bales, of the Hastings Safeguarding Investigation Unit, said: “These were serious and predatory offences committed against women who should have felt safe. I would like to commend the victims for their courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation.

"We remain committed to ensuring victims of sexual offences receive support and that offenders are brought before the courts.”
