Not much detail here, but I wonder what this driver had been up to that attracted the attention of National Crime Agency officers in the first place :-o

A taxi driver was caught with £148000 of dirty money in his car.

Irfan Sarwar, 44, was stopped by officers in Garscube Road, Maryhill, after a National Crime Agency (NCA) surveillance operation on November 20, 2021.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that NCA officers had watched Sarwar and a child enter his home in Cortmalaw Crescent, Robroyston, before he returned to his Toyota private hire taxi alone.

Prosecutor Ryan Watson said: "Officers saw he was carrying a bag for life which appeared to be weighted.

"Sarwar placed the bag inside and drove off."

Officers traced Sarwar to Garscube Road where he was sat in traffic and searched the vehicle.

Watson said: "There was a bag in the footwell which had a large quantity of cash.

"There were three bundles of cash containing £148555."

Sarwar claimed he had been approached by a group of Albanian men two months prior while parked outside a pub.

Watson said: "One of them named Vino offered him £200 to pick up and drop off the package.

"He said he accepted the offer as he was struggling financially."

Sarwar was arrested and pleaded guilty to possessing £148555 of criminal property.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Owen Mullan, who continued Sarwar's bail meantime.

I suspect they were following the money, and he just happened to be in control of it at the time.
