Nelson taxi driver found guilty of sexually touching

6:18pm Friday 30th January 2009

A TAXI driver sexually assaulted a sixth former as he drove her to school to take an exam.

Burnley Crown Court heard how the 17-year-old victim was later found sitting on the school steps sobbing minutes before she was due to take the drama test last June.

Liaqat Khan, 56, of Holly Street, Nelson, was found guilty of indecent assault.

One of her teachers told the hearing the girl was "very, very distressed" and she had never seen her like that before.

The teacher told the jury the pupil went to speak to her after she had been to wash her face.

She continued :"She was just sobbing. She was very, very upset. She wasn't calm enough to talk about it.

“It took her quite a while to compose herself and to be able to tell me what had happened at her."

The teacher made notes of the alleged sexual attack, gave them to her deputy head teacher and he called the police, she added.

She said the girl told her Khan touched the top of her legs and her groin area and tried to touch her breasts.

She continued :"She said it had been over her clothes.”

The teacher said the girl had told her the defendant, who she knew of because she had used his taxi before, had told her he would take her to school for nothing or for £2 as she did not had enough money for the fare.

The victim told her Khan had asked her to move into the front passenger seat from the back of the cab.

"She said he kept trying to touch her and she kept saying "No, no, please don't.”

The hearing was told despite her ordeal, the girl sat her exam on her own an hour late.

Khan will be sentenced at a later date.

Half hour for him maybe, but, how long will the young girl suffer for as a result of his fleeting madness

Oh he will get a CRB, it's just that it will have sex offender on it for life.

And he will never get on the ISA list when it's out in October.

Are you asking a question?

Or implying that I am in error? 8-[

Referee says:

He will be barred, specifically, from taxi work for 10 years.

Thereafter, he will be free to apply for a badge, subject to the usual checks, i.e. CRB, knowledge, medical, etc. Will he get a 'clean' CRB?

Is that satisfactory to you both?????????

Never, once a crime/caution is registered on a CRB check it never leaves.
