You must have a poltergeist then Mr Scanner, or someone has been using your computer without your authorisation, because it's the same IP address as the last messages, ask AOL if you don't believe me.

Either that or it was you all along, I never did believe your 'friends' story.

I am not so petty as to post stupid time wasting posts. Why would I be so stupid when I know, as a web site owner myself, that all visits can be traced!

I will tell you my own personal thoughts about this site:

I find it very informative with some very knowledgable people making a valuable contribution, and giving a mix of different views from different parts of the UK. Extremely healthy indeed.

It is an excellent source of up to date news on the trade.

However, at times it can be bogged down with a few petty arguments and nit picking.

I would have liked to have contributed more but I do not have the time to be involved with long, drawn out arguments.

Dusty, why on earth did you not just delete the post in the first place. I would suggest that if you have any such postings in the future that you delete them straight away and not accuse me of making them.

I will continue to drop in and Scan for interesting topics and any news that may be available but hope that my name is not used again as the propargator of offending posts. You have got my full IP addess, as provided above, so you will see whenever I look in of indeed make postings.

I envisage that you will indeed compare the IP addresses that you have and consider your accusations as being wrong. In fact, I would think that you can even ban any postings coming from my IP address if the technical facilities of this form allow. I believe this to case on other forums. I suggest you look into it.

The reason I didn't delete the post is because as you know this has caused a lot of problems in the past. The post itself wasn't really that objectionable, it was just the fact that the evidence strongly pointed towards the author being the same person as the post which you agreed emanated from your computer.

The IP was one element of the evidence, I can't tell you the other things, but suffice to say that the IP was the same as that that the username 'scanner' made 94 posts from. Of course that's not conclusive proof that it was you, but then again I didn't say it was you!

The other reason I didn't delete it was because I'm not actually the moderator - Alex is - but we both need access to the administration controls in the forum, so the software shows us registered as administrator - I really am an administrator only(!) but Alex is also the moderator, but the software gives administrators moderator's powers as well - there are no moderators actually registered on the forum, as you may have noticed - their names appear in green when they are online.

Yes, IP addresses can be banned Mr Scanner, but again the policy has been towards not banning anyone, and the offending post in no way merited a ban.

Anyway, the IP process is not an exact science, what with rolling IP addresses as you'll know as a bit of a web buff.

Anyway, the topic is closed as far as I'm concerned.

It's not for the admin's benefit only, because anyone can post on it, if they choose not to then that's fine, but it's there if they want to.

But most people view the posts rather than post - because you don't have to register to view the posts a lot of people don't register - if we required registration then I'm sure we would have a few hundred members.

Some of the other forums have had several hundred members (I think one had nearly a thousand) but no more posters than this one, and not much more looking in than posting either.
