From the evening standard message board, surely not a case of London's finest taking a passenger the long way round?

With regard to Brian Sewell's frustration at the route taken by his taxi driver (6 September), the Public Carriage Office is keen to maintain the highest possible standards for London's taxi trade. Where passengers feel they have received poor service, I would urge them to note down the cab number and report the problem to the PCO on 0845 602 7000.

E Thompson, Public Carriage Office.

More likely a case of a pi55ed up punter who thinks he knows the roads better than someone who has spent 5 years on the knowledge. Nothing winds me up more than the “ You should have turned left there mate” merchants…. They then expect me to be able to read their mind and know exactly what route they THINK is the shortest.

I have no problem with someone who wants to go a particular route and CLEARLY states it at the beginning of the journey.

Took a wrong turning the other night, only about 50 yards - went to turn back. No! its alright drive, carry on up here, right, left, right, left all the way to the destination.

The meter reads £5.80, right here you are drive £5, Umm sorry mate its £5.80, Umm no drive it is normally only £5.

Then followed by the you took me the wrong way, Umm me! if you had let me take you the way that I wanted - it would have been, but you insisted giving me directions - Dont you just love them,NOT.

I have only ever taken a taxi once in London and I believe that the driver did not go the shortest route. Perhaps one of you could tell me the shortest route and the fare that I should have paid for the journey.
Pick up at the Playhouse theatre on Northumberland Avenue and take to the royal Sussex Hotel on Sussex Gardens. The fare was at 10.45 PM on a wednesday.

Not a green badge, but I think the best route is along the Mail to Hyde Park corner then up Park Lane.

Hmmmm not sure, have to ask a green badge that one, but can't see it making a lot of difference over that short distance unless the driver was seriously taking the [edited by admin]. No idea what the fare should have been.

This is only one viable route worth doing, through the park, Hyde Park corner, Park Lane, Bayswater Road, then right into dodgy Hotel land.

£15 to you.

What is wrong with going up the Edgeware road from Marble Arch and turning left into Sussex Gardens?
