As drivers leave it is owners who normally sit on their back sides that are having to come out themselves.

In my view that's a reason for celebration. \:D/

Is it just me or, are things going from bad to worse? We've had the Easter Holidays, and the Volcanic eruption in Iceland, but yet things don't seem to be improving. I really thought it would've picked up somewhat, but it doesn't appear to be happening.

What gives?

Is it perhaps the forthcoming election and the economic aftermath that's stopping people spending?

I'm hearing a lot of horror stories, about guys leaving the trade, going under, or trying to sell up.

They say the recession is over!!! That is probably true but cash business like ours are now starting to feel the street recession kicking in. When the economist's say we are in a recession, we maybe but a Recession takes about 1 year to hit the street/cash business.

As you are an advocate of only the strong will survive, i'm in a position to invest? up the anti, take a wee financial risk, good business keeping means i have an option SKULL? Watch this space!!!

I do know a guy who is looking for guy's like you with no business accumen to clean cars/Taxi's ect, minimum wage of course

De-limitation my a-sh-le

God, you talk, some bollocks Dougie.

The worst is yet to come.

The government (whatever government that is) has a huge budget deficit, and more debt since WWII.

You have less money in your pocket because people have very little disposable income. The price of fuel is going up, and so is your cost of living, and now you are about to be taxed to death..

Have you gotten the picture yet Dougie?

The trade is fecked.

Indeed the worst is yet to come.

Folks I know who work in the courts, the hospitals and the civil service generally are getting geared up for massive cuts in workers and expenditure.

And in time that will effect us.

The trade is fecked. Yes, I know, I've said it before but this time it really is. Oh and it's only going to get worse.

I spoke to an owner today who got his keys through his letter box with a little note saying, “thanks but no thanks, it's just not worth it”. On the Day-shift, you are struggling to earn the minimum wage £5. 80 an hour, after you've paid your rental. The night-shift I hear is not much better except for a Friday and Saturday, but of course, it is all relative to the cost of your rental.

I also heard about a driver who had to borrow money to make up his rental, fair play to the owner, he refused to take the cash his driver eventually offered him.

None of this is bullshit, all of it is factual.

A wee bit poetic licence with the note, I couldn't remember exactly what the driver had written.

Gary,

That all sounds about right.

The last few weeks have seen n/s drivers chucking it in numbers, and from what I have been getting told on the ranks by those that I can trust, the d/s is being hit now also.

I think after the summer large numbers of the drivers that are left will pack it in then. Because they cant afford to go through another winter of earning peanuts and hoping it will get better.

There are going to be a lot of owners driving their motors on their own after that point.
Single shifted with radio dues, I dont fancy that.

then it will make things a lot better, who knows maybe attitudes will change.
but who needs a radio :?:

course the reality is that no matter how bad it gets unless you have employment to go to,you have no choice but to remain put.
in these times at least.

unless you really can earn $8543. a week working part time from home according to all the Spam I've been getting recently

sussex,

Most are simply planning to go back to whatever jobs they had previously.

This ranges from bus driving to night shift shelf stacker in a supermarket.

Someone once told me that about a third of Edinburgh taxi drivers were at one time, bus drivers.
Whether the figure is true or not, certainly a lot were.
If they have kept their licence valid, then they can practically walk into a job as there is a shortage of bus drivers.

There is no ambition involved among the drivers planning to leave, they just want out of taxis and will do anything.

You just dont get it do you?
less drivers does not mean less taxis, it just means longer hours.

What do you have against taxi DRIVERS?

Of course it doesn't mean longer hours. ](*,)

If you have 1000 customers being picked up by 1000 cabs being driving by 1000 drivers, and half the drivers leave, you will have 1000 customers being picked up by 500 cabs being driven by 500 drivers i.e. more money in less hours.

Nah,

You have the same amount of cabs, its just that each driver would be doing longer hours, and the owners who dont drive currently will need to come out.
If a motor is single shifted it will be out at all the good times, there will be times when less cabs would be on the road but that would be at the quietest times only.
