I understand where the LA are coming from, as I have previously stated PH is pre-booked work, why should a PH driver need a topographical test for a route that he would know in advance.

Why would he always know the route beforehand?

Customers sometimes give wrong destinations, the girls in the office sometimes give the wrong destinations.

Customers also often change their minds. Also with the IVR system often used now no destination is given.

Also when others are ordering a car for you in a pub/club/restaurant/hairdressers, hotel etc etc they don't ask for a destination, thus the driver doesn't get one until the punters get in.

I know what you mean, but I believe differently.

Several Cotswold-based firms had appealed to Cotswold District Council’s Licensing committee saying that as most of their journeys involved trips out of the area or long-distance hauls to airports the test was not necessary for their drivers and was slowing down their recruitment process.

Deepest recession since the 2nd World War, and these firms can't recruit workers.

FFS the wages must be really sh**.

I pay £7.50 per hour and 20 days holiday plus bank holidays and I have problems getting drivers.

Dear Sir or Madam, I enclose my CV and completed application form...

So what's the maximum hours per week a driver can work for you?

They usually do just school contracts and some airport work. At the moment I guarantee 16 hours work but sometimes they work up to 30 hours. I also allow the drivers to use the car if they want to work say a Saturday night and they only have to put the fuel in that they use. I do not get a cut from their takings whilst working on non contract jobs.
