Democracy is an illusion perpetrated by the control group on the bewildered herd to maintain their blind compliance.

There is not one councillor in Edinburgh who was elected with the votes of more than one in six of his/her electorate - less than 17%. Majority view?

And your more democratic alternative is exactly what?

Is that not due to the fact that a large majority of people don't vote?

If you are thinking about selling out and can find a mug. I would do it now. However, if you are intending to stay in the trade, I would be looking forward to reducing costs with the added prospect of single shifting your taxi.

If you don't have unrealistic expectations of what you can earn, your survival in a de-restricted market is assured. It all comes down to, living within your means. A lot of new blood will enter the trade to replace those that can't hack it. And hopefully, the trade will evolve to take control of its own destiny, without having to go, cap in hand to the council.

I can't see the vested interests of the taxi trade being protected as an endangered species for much longer.

You have been warned. :-|

Aye I can see now.

Sue Bruce says, "Never mind the council's financial problems Donald, here's a cheque for two hundred grand, go and protect these nice taxi chaps' vested interest".

"And while you're at it, how are you getting along with the sacking of all those employees we're getting rid of? Can't be helped. It's about priorities, and we have to help those nice taxi owners keep their pretendy plate values".

Quality

So this Sue Bruce is gonna come in and change everything overnight, just like that with a click of her fingers?

Nah, I believe the council will issue plates, similar to last year, as a demand is apparently required with the last survey but it won't be an opening of the flood gates. Just because she de restricted Aberdeen doesnt mean that's the case in Edinburgh. Each city is different with it's services an needs

You guys keep believing in your good fight.

Meet Sue Bruce the New chief Executive of Edinburgh Council.

The new chief executive is apparently here to drag Edinburgh council out of the dark ages and into the twenty-first century. What's the big deal, I hear you say?

I suggest you click on the links and inform yourself as to Mrs., Bruce's background.

I wonder what might happen next? Now don't let your imaginations run riot.

Restriction is unsustainable and de-restriction, inevitable.

I bet she's got better things to do than to listen to you and Jasbar.

Skull and Jasbar you have proven to me that you both are clutching at your final straws if you believe SUE BRUCE is your saviour

Joined Aberdeen council on the 1st of December 2008 quickly found out and eh moved on and in to Edinburgh council  I do agree with you both that some within Edinburgh council are gullible

I hear she was encouraged out of her position with Aberdeen council as she was making a right mess of that too, oh and there is her Education and Social work experiance

I am right in saying she is the new Chief executive!!! but with such a great track record you would think she would be in an elected position

Jobs for the girls this one  and with no power over anything really but hey she will concentrate on her strengh, PR&marketing or i call it free loading  an opening of an envelope she will be there trust me

She has you two though and i'm sure you two will be falling over yourselves offering her your Taxi service and a severe ear lugging in too the bargaining of how your trade don't like you's, now now lads no fighting

thats a very naive attitude you have their Dougie.
councilors make their decisions based on what they are told by the civil servants, and the lawyers.

councilors are totally toothless, why do you think there language is always wooly

the elected official is there only to give you the illusion that we have some kind of control,we don't.

there is no choice, only belief that you have it.

keep following the fitba, that'll keep your eye off the real adversary.

Poor wee Private Reggie, is all worried, his little world is crumbling beneath his feet. This is where it hurts Reggie. You've made a huge emotional and financial investment in your illusion, and that's all it ever was an illusion. Welcome Dougie, to the REAL WORLD.

Sorry to disappoint you Skull but my investment in money terms is insignificant but my returns are significant as i do the hours required to earn my crust, i'm not one of those who sit around the haymarket rank waiting for de-restriction, i get on with the job in hand, you know move around my fair city.

With me a little investment to protect my income is well worth it :D

So, it's really a protection racket Dougie?

I have to laugh at you though.

Sue joins Aberdeen and 20 months later she lands the most prestigious local authority job in Scotland, with the Royal residence and the seat of the Scottish Parliament.

And you bright boy think Sue failed

You're a one off dougie. Not so much a member of the bewildered herd - just bewildered

That's what your saying the now Taylor but once Sue gets fed up with your fan mail and your demands that our trade be de-restricted, you will change your TUNE

God be with her

I was talking to your mate last week :?

Donald Anderson   Oh my god, Sue doesn't know what she is in for

All you can do is tell her to stop the council funding court cases, and you think she is going to do what you want   After being briefed on you don't be surprised if an interdict is served on you

That'll be a brace of scumbags then

Frank! Now now Frank, I know you like to keep up to speed.

You see what Dougie Brown is saying here, Frank?

In the interests of public safety, shouldn't he be red stickered until he can prove to the taxi examiner that he has properly fumigated his taxi? Can't have the public catching anything can we?

Until proven to be safe, shouldn't Dougie be required to drive his taxi with a bearer walking 10 paces in front wringing a hand bell and shouting a loud warning to the public - "UNCLEAN .... UNCLEAN"

And shouldn't Dougie be brought before the council as not being a fit and proper person for carrying noxious items in his taxi?

After all, haven't cab inspectors traditionally made such formal complaints for a lot less than this obviously seeeerious matter

Nice one Dougie .....
