Only PH have an operators license! In my area 99% of firms are all hackney NO operators license required it can confuse the hell out of some organisations you deal with who are totally bamboozled but we probably do 90% of our work from the phones and up to 25% or more are jobs outside of the licensing district as we border 3 other districts.

advise please?
Can a hackney carriage licensed in one area work in another area as private hire,
E.g. Licensed as hackney carriage in manchester but work as private hire in liverpool using a liverpool PH circuit?

I would say yes, but I haven't read the judgement yet.

Providing any work comes via a pre-booking.

Now what the court views as a pre-booking will be an interesting read.

so it'll be worth my friend to license his vehicle in a cheap area where licence and renewals are cheap and work in his area where it'll all expensive?

No you cant do that, what sussex means is that the place where the booking is received is the place you need to be licensed, along with the operator and vehicle.

You must work the area your licensed in, but you can pick up in another area provided the booking was accepted in your own licensing area.

I believe he was approached on a petrol station forecourt in Gateshead and was asked
If he would take his passengers to a hotel in Gateshead.
Gateshead enforcement have caught quite a few with the same sting and also from the
Gateshead hotel to Newcastle central station, a fare of five pounds!
