Quite a lot of nonsense on TaxiPoint, and that is one such article. The full article reads like a list of the pros and cons of becoming a taxi driver, which is fair enough, and the list makes good enough points.
But can't see how it sheds any light really on why the trade is ageing, and why new younger drivers aren't coming through in the way the used to.
But, to be honest, can never really thing of a reasonable explanation myself. Could certainly write plenty more speculative stuff about it all, but really can't be bothered
Of course, historically the trade has been composed mainly of middle-aged white men. In fact I think our age profile in St Andrews actually got a lot younger when quite a lot of East Europeans arrived. And perhaps the same as many of them disappeared, but there was an influx of drivers from, er, Dundee
Which probably sounds like something it isn't, but better not say too much
But certainly wouldn't say there's a shortage of drivers here - quite the reverse, in fact - but not sure the demographic here is typical of the country more generally
