Perhaps it’s wrong to take the attitude of “what’s done is done?” Several local authorities along with licensing officers, taxi drivers and owners have been maligned by Brighton GMB and all you can say is, "what's done is done?" It would appear that the Brighton GMB thinks it is beneath them to apologise for their unfounded allegations?

It is no wonder the authors of this fictitious nonsense are hiding behind a cloak of anonymity.

Well, can it be changed .................. no it can't ................ it has been done so it is done.

The GMB need to resolve the issues raised by this letter, but I doubt they will conduct any investigations or make any announcements about it on here.

Some of you may be aware but the GMB is holding its congress this week, there is a meeting of PDB officials/representatives (or whatever you want to call them) tomorrow evening ................... where I'm sure questions will be both asked and answered on many issues including this one.

I did not suggest that nothing should be done, nor did I suggest that no further action should be taken .................... what I said was that the action had been taken and therefore couldn't be taken back.

You see no-one can say that with any certainty Tommy mate.

It is a statement that has been made by a single branch ................ surely the Cab Section of the T&G has many branches ............ and if one of those branches made a "curious" statement, like the one in question, then you wouldn't want it to be either credited to your branch specifically or the T&G generally.

You would seek an opportunity to question the statement privately ................. congress was so close, and as everyone involved would be there it seemed sensible to discuss the matter then.

Ted has just sent TDO an e-mail thanking everyone on here for their support, including Tommy T&G.

He is pleased that his letter has motivated officials into action and will up-date TDO as soon as his report is complete.

You're not quite with it mate. Anyone can say no to the question.
What you fail to see is that you need to be equipped with the right values and beliefs.
The statement is on the GMB Web Site, it was produced by a GMB Rep and two members of the GMB publicity department. The branch can be readily identified by the GMB rep's name, 'seasy really. It's all GMB generated material and the insults and lies contained in their publicity shot are all public but you seek to address these in private. The impugned, so maliciously targeted by the GMB untruths, are not to be given a voice nor hear condemnation of said rep and his collaborators? This smacks of hiding behind or under stones to me but you present it as a virtue.
There is something seriously wrong with your logic.

Overall, what your responses demonstrate are the failings of the GMB ethos to embrace reality, not only in terms of recruitment, on which it's future depends, but also for representation of current members because, if any is undertaken at all, the quality and content of GMB education and training,as evidenced by these outpourings, is so tragically poor.

I agree to a degree.
Yes it is to keep trade for Brighton and Hove Drivers but it is especially to keep trade for the GMB "Brighton" and (not so much) Hove Drivers, and a large proportion of Brighton and Hove Drivers live far far away from Brighton and Hove.
But, given the falacious nature of the GMB output, other examples exist within these forums, does an embargo have any justification anyway?

It is my opinion that the true authors and instigators of the actions of the GMB in the south east, specifically Brighton, will, when they become apparent to everyone, hide away and deny any involvement.

It is to often the case that this site chooses to alter certain posts to either suit or cause an argument or conflict .................. indeed prominant members here posts under at least two other aliases, so it is not beyond the realms of probability that the letter was in fact written by someone who bears a personal grudge against the GMB and is a prominant poster on here.

I'm sure that if the author of the letter feels so aggrieved he would be willing to meet and discuss the matter ....................... but I would expect that they won't.

As I said, if you and your GMB cohorts could even get to grips with the basics of taxi licensing then you wouldn't write the kind of drivel in the press releases in the first place and you wouldn't have to resort to even more drivel to defend yourself.

No, I'm not suggesting you had anything to do with either of the press releases - you have a bit too much savvy and knowledge for that.

Your fault is that you're now trying to defend the content of the press releases by discrediting TDO - shoot first, and don't even bother asking questions later.

Is it really that surprising that something in the Brighton Argus is read by people in the trade in Lewes and they take offence to it when their trade is impugned with nothing in the way of justification?

Someone in the Lewes trade sent us the letter (unsolicited) and asked us to put it on the site?

Is that really too far-fetched?

You could quite easily defend yourself by saying that the press release had nothing to do with you, end of.

Instead you're clearly trying to defend the GMB rather than yourself, so if you run with the pack....
