I'm not a tech person but if someone from vosa has put their name to it then it must be ok!

Like it or not, if this is correct then off they go and leave them to it.

I would say though that if a lot of people buy these it may become the case that all Hummers will be ignored by vosa cos it will become like the minibus situation............ so many are.. so many aren't!

I don't think the self drive people have said that it can't be done. I think that what has been said is that you don't need to go to all that expense to be legal.

Myself and several colleagues had a super time in one of these limousines when it drove us to our annual golf club ball. I wasn't aware they needed a taxi license.

Will.

They need a license of sorts, other than the normal DVLA one.

They all should have either a taxi/PH/PSV license, but I suspect less than 20% do.

Now that would make a great article.

Ther was me thinking that this topic was refering to 16 seater coifed Hummers and you lot seem to think that they should be covered by a taxi badge that can only cover upto 8 passengers. Behave yourselves. A coifed Hummer would come under PCV.

I was talking about the limo/hummer trade as a whole.

If we want to talk about the number of legal 16-seater hummers, didn't we discuss recently there was just one in the whole country.

Out of how many 100s? :?

I think the person who mentioned Taxi license for limos is probably a limo operator, not a taxi driver.

However the story of legally licensed 16 seater limo must be music to your ears but how many years will it take to legally license the rest of them if legislation stays as it is?

It might be in your best interest for you limo operators to apply to join the informal meeting of minds group. You can fast track your legislative changes through the 1976 act by inserting a clause that stipulates something like this,

Licensing of Stretch limousines.

STRETCH limousines carrying passengers for hire or reward up to a seating capacity of 24 seats are to be classed as special event vehicles and are exempt from any other form of licensing other than prescribed in this act.

Drivers of special event vehicles.

Drivers of special event vehicles as defined in this act shall require a special event drivers license issued by any legally authorised commissioner subject to the following conditions.

Then you could insert various other clauses which include vehicle and driver conditions and also the testing of these vehicles. You would have to insert a definition in section 80 as to the meaning of stretch limousines and driver.

If this meeting of minds group can try and fast track legislation that works against the taxi trade then why not join the happy band of reformists and get limos fast tracked too.

Regards

JD
