Crank

My column appears to be achieving critical review in Edinburgh, which if I actually cared, I suppose I’d take as a compliment. Unfortunately the critical acclaim comes from a crank, a person who during one year was opposed to taxi delimitation, then the next was totally in favour of it. This same chap appears to have written to Edinburgh CC opposing a recent fare increase application, whilst being blissfully unaware that the costs of running a taxi, due to the horrendous price of fuel and with taxi insurance companies fleeing the market effectively means running a taxi costs more than ever before. He and his cohort now complain about a lack of trade for taxis, with private hire seemingly taking over the place, whilst at the same time criticising every Hackney radio circuit within the City, yet he still maintains that more taxis are needed upon the streets of Edinburgh. This guy is truly the cab drivers champion.

He is actually on record as stating Edinburgh’s policy of managed growth led to the rape of a female who mistakenly got into a private car driven by a salivating rapist monster who was masquerading as a taxi / private hire driver. That’s nice for the headlines Wee Jimmy boy, but he doesn’t actually have any proof that taxi related rapes are actually more common in either regulated or deregulated areas.

For some sad reason the Edinburgh press love this guy, he’s a regular star in the local press, blaming ECC and managed growth for everything. We have those kind of cranks down here too, in fact every area has a crank that writes into a local paper each week complaining about anything and everything.

Of course in taxitalk we allow our cranks to have columns. See I do have a sense of humour, don't I Bernie!

There you go the bit in question, now where do you get rape is reasonable from?

CC

I think it was as a consequence of your column but not directly relating to it. Your "rape is reasonable" comment was made right here on TDO.

:-| I don't know why you want to go over old ground, we all know what you meant, and you are entitled to your opinion CC. :-|

Aye you're a real economist CC, a real business Guru. Costs go up and therefore prices go up to match. Even a first year economics student wouldn't recognise this as an economic formula. Because this formula only works if there are no other factors. And we have recession and competition to factor in.

Prices are set to the maximum the market will bear, to yield the highest profit and return.

We have recession which is driving prices down throughout the whole economy, yet Gurus like you want to increase prices despite this. You for real?

The reality is that in these economic circumstances, to maintain or protect returns, it is necessary to contain costs. Restricting fuel use. shopping around among suppliers to reduce costs - they need to be competitive to. Incesing work priods. These are all things that are being denied drivers because the market is restricted. By supportng restriction CC, you're preventing drivers controlling their costs.

And in Edinburgh, Private Hire are operating their business at up to 30% lower than hacks, and the monopolistic taxi companies wanted to introduce a party tariff to rip off punters even more at peak times. A ruse they wanted to introduce to encourage more drivers to work the peak periods to satisfy the extra demand they say doesn't exist so that they can prevent competition coming into the trade.

You know nothing about economics CC.

Two females got into unlicensed vehicles because they couldn't hail a taxi, confirmed by no less than judge Lady Smith, the numbers of which are artificially restricted to protect vested trade interests, and the consequence of your treatise on the matter is that "rape is reasonable". End of CC.

I just wonder if you would say the same if it was your daughter who was raped. Or killed even. To hold this view just makes you a scumbag CC. So, tell us.

As for my being published in the News, methinks that you're just jealous that he News has a readership of tens of thousands, whereas the rag you write in is read by ... well actually I don't know anyone who reads it so I can't say.

And how much value does the rag have if it's prepared to let you contribute?

Keep taking the tablets CC.

No, that's not what she said

She said that the victim needed a taxi, not that she couldn't hail one. 2 different things jim. Your just twisting things again to fit your argument!

CC, the fact is, if vulnerable females are being raped as a consequence of restricting Taxis, it wouldn't bother you one little bit. :-|
