which do you go to for your 99?...............

So if I wanted a PH vehicle and there are 2 saloons where I've arranged to be collected. One has a licenced PH driver inside it and the other Mr Opportunity Perv, which one do I go to if there are no signs :?

you will get in the one with the number plate on it youve been told is yours

do you need glasses?

as a clincher the driver will know your name, whats the odds of a fake driver knowing it?

They don't tell you what plate number your PH vehicle is and anyway what if I'm drunk and even when sober not the brightest spark in the fireworks box?

ok, Birmingham City Council must issue 1000s of private hire plates and THEY see no need for rooflights or stickers, so its not just me who cant see the point (or rather CAN see the advantages of NOT having them)

you obviously know more than them then?

oh, and i DO tell passengers what car to look out for, dont you? and i never mentioned PLATE numbers i meant the big white thing on the front with black letters on it that DVLA give everyone, you too im sure

NUMBER PLATE ---- not PH PLATE

Now you're being facetious

No I don't I work on a circuit of 300 drivers. It's hard enough for the telephonists to get the passenger to a pick up point at times. They have an easier option if the job goes out to me while the passenger is on the phone, cos they can tell them it's a female driver. They can also tell them which vehicle is coming for them so long as the job goes out whilst the passenger is on the phone and the passenger can hear them properly. Other than that if the job goes out once the passenger is off the phone they can't tell them anything. The automated service will tell the passenger what type of vehicle is coming for them, but, that is only if the passenger calls back.

Again lets hope they can see straight. I think you have to look at all aspects of PH and not just the one man bands

numbers dont matter, if a job is booked to a car, it has a number plate, if its a 300 car circuit it will probably have a despatch system with details logged car to job, even simpler!

still no need for door stickers, hacks dont want PH taking flagdowns, sensible PH drivers dont want the unwarranted attention of drunks (even you toots) trying to climb in when not booked, so remove the attractants....the signs

as for PH rooflights ---- what can anyone say to support them?

That only works if the job is despatched whilst the customer is on the phone. It will involve the customer calling back to find out otherwise. I prefer to have signs so people know what I am and who I work for. There are a lot of vehicles doing this job in Liverpool and the Wirral all going to the same places to pick up passengers. It makes sense to me that the passengers can more readily identify which is their vehicle.

I think you will find that Liverpool and surrounding areas issue equally as many PH licences so it's not just me who can se the advantages of having door signs for PH

Should I assume the same as you did about me

No signs on Private Hire is about a nationwide rule with a few hiccups in a few misguided areas which may one day be brought into line with common sense

want rid of flies round a [edited by admin]? get rid of the smell....simples

THE SIGNS ATTRACT PUNTERS..................whatever it says on them, considering you have to be kneeling by the car to read most of them......lol

Liverpool have a good few 1000 PH as well as the 1000's from surrounding areas that go there to collect customers.

Our district started using door signs for private hire a couple of years ago. The problem here is that there are virtually no private hire vehicles out at night They are all hackney carriage or unlicensed vehicles. The punter doesn't care anyway. Most of the Hackneys do not use their meters and charge way above the metered fare and no one complains to the council. The council don't or rather won't come out and check if meters are being used correctly. The council also know all the details of the unlicensed vehicles, mainly one man who uses several different vehicles, where he picks up from and still they don't do anything. They did prosecute this chap a few years ago and there is a nice story on the internet about it but nothing since.

door signs at my knee height, in english, and when im sober......one thing

when the reader is p.issed, over 6 feet, has only limited english are a totally different matter, and 2 of the last 3 are bad enough

so we can expect multilingual private hire door signs next then?

Iraqi, Urdu, Punjabi, Polish, Bulgarian, Latvian, ........

oh, and dont forget the braille version....

BTW, removing a sticky door sign is a days work and never leaves the paintwork unscathed, more so if its a metallic, is compensation available?

Since when does the driver always know the name?

Loads of calls are now done IVR, or the restaurant calls for a cab, or a pub/club/hotel calls for a number of cars.

Your scenario might work with one man band firms, but with firms with over 100/200/300 vehicles it don't.

Customers get in the wrong call all the time, it's in all our interests to make sure they get in the right booked licensed vehicle.

The more signage the better.

Our signs are magnetic so take seconds to remove and don't damage the paintwork :D
