Another well-considered post, one could be mistaken for thinking you are hurting big time. Never mind Dug, it's only going to get worse.

Just a myth of your imagination Jim, the GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS is to blame for the downturn in my fortunes added to the fact that in the last 10 years there is 300 more black cab licences, controlled growth you know, my way of restriction is the way Jim and you know it

The PHC will alway's have a very limited growth, they have ran out of mugs willing to be enslaved by false promise of we shall overcome the blacks

Alway's willing to keep you right Jim

So, was it the Global Economic crisis that caused private hie to quadruple, in my time in the taxis?

Do the arithmetic thicko and wonder just who it is who is now dictating tariffs?

The public are walking away from your status quo.

And get this, the state of the trade isn't down to me, or the Skull, or Ali T or anyone else who sees the individual's right to his own tools of his trade, it's entirely down to your model and the control freaks who run it.

You're destroying us all with your greed and stupidity.

It's not going to last.

Where in my post did i blame you, Skull and the comet previously known as ALIT for the demise of our Trade, The demise is a myth in your head, we are surviving through tough times Jim, things will level out over the next few years and i agree only the strong will survive but survive within the satus quo

Dougie, driving a taxi in Edinburgh is now a low-paid job working ridiculous hours with no rights. You can't even expect the minimum wage. Of course, if you happen to frequent the fantasy world of Dougie Smith. You are up there somewhere with businessmen and bankers but back in the real world. It's just plain [edited by admin].

Now tell me Dougie, who in their right mind would drive a taxi out of choice?

You are right about the taxi trade surviving through tough times, but those driving taxis for a living will change. Anyone with half a wit is trying to get out. It's now a source of employment for immigrants who are prepared to work sh*t hours for crap pay that don't know any better.

I'm inclined to agree that in some areas this statement is right. That would be in areas that have low driver standards and pi$$ easy knowledge tests

Some would have you believe “the knowledge” test in Edinburgh is of a high standard, but you've only got to look at the monkeys passing the brief to know it's nonsense.

I suspect “the knowledge” in itself is probably much the same as its ever been but learning it with the aid of the internet, google maps and street view. It's a scoosh. I am sure you could pass without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. And let's face it, if you've got feck all better to do that makes it even easier still.

OK I admit it I'm wrong. Thanks for putting me right.

But while I'm at it can you tell me where just one of the PH companies got its 30,000 plus jobs a week?

And why have cabs risen by 40% over the 18 years I've been in the trade while PH have risen by 400?

And I'd also be grateful, since you are the one who has the handle on all things taxi trade, would we have had a tariff increase at the last time of asking if PH hadn't dropped theirs by up to 30%?

I'm just glad that we unenlightened ones in the trade, have such wisdom as yours to set us straight.

Now, don't be shy.

Maybe it's the difference between a restricted growth and a de-restricted free for all  Thank god for the 40%, this is why the PHC free for all has stopped, it's no longer financially viable, the original intention of the PHC trade was not what it has become and in retrospect a mistake, but trust me Jim it is all about to come crashing down, our trade will rise again as it alway's has to be a trade again, us who survive will have the last laugh

F.A.O. Skull.... started ma' shift at 5. pm, finished at 2. am.
(1 hr break). Total income = £76.40p. Fuel = £3. 15p. Therefor, 76.40 divided by 8 (hrs) = 37.67. Thats right Garry, nearly £50 an hour for a Tuesday night !. (and the Festival hasn't even started yet !). B.T.W., Is this guy as good as George Carlin ?.

Well I did a bit of accountancy and audit in an earlier life, and that's the strangest set of numbers I've ever seen

I suspect even Enron's books were easier to work out than that little lot #-o

Fairplay: I can see that Maths ain't your strong point. £9.15 an hour seems a more likely Rate to me.

I drive a 2yo E7 and I'd love to get your Fuel to Earnings Ratio.

My bird's costing me closer to 20p, for every £1 earned, to run. So for me, the same shift, I'd be spending closer to £14.50 on Fuel.

It was the £3.15 for fuel that really got me. :D

You could hardly run a cigarette lighter for an eight hour shift for that
