Three beat up taxi driver
A TAXI DRIVER was viciously assaulted by three men he refused to take home.
The 31-year-old, from Cathays, Cardiff, was left needing surgery to a shattered jaw and was today recovering at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Police and the city’s hackney carriage association appealed for anyone who recognises descriptions of the three suspects to contact officers.
The three men, all aged in their 20s, attacked the driver after he would not take them back to St Mellons, Cardiff, without payment in advance.
The attack happened near the Barfly Club on Kingsway, Cardiff, at about 4am on Tuesday and the suspects ran off towards St Mary Street.
Detectives are studying CCTV and issued descriptions of the three men.
They were described as:
Man one: black, aged about 20, 6ft, of skinny build with short black hair. He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt with blue or purple stripes;
Man two: white, about 5ft 7in, with short blond hair, and of average build. He was wearing a long-sleeve white top;
Man three: mixed race, about 6ft 2in, with black hair. He was wearing black suit trousers and a black cardigan.
Mathab Khan, chairman of Cardiff’s hackney carriage association, said he hoped a taxi driver who may have taken the men home afterwards might recognise the descriptions.
He said: “This man was very badly beaten up. I hope that anyone who took three men home to St Mellons at that time will come forward.”
Anyone with information should call their local police station or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
