Banned for bald tyres on "taxi"

A TAXI driver has been suspended for four weeks after a conviction for driving his vehicle with bald tyres.

Oldham Council’s licensing panel heard how Abdul Hannan, 39, of Franklin Close, Coldhurst, was stopped by licensing officers during a random vehicle stop and subsequently prosecuted following concerns he was not checking his car.

Cllr Jim McArdle, chairman of licensing, said: "The council takes the issues of passenger safety extremely seriously and will not hesitate to use its powers to ensure that this remains the case.

"Random checks on private hire vehicles happen all the time and action will be taken whenever faults are found.

"Private hire and hackney driver have a responsibility to check their vehicles for faults on a daily basis."

Mr Hannan has 21 days to appeal the suspension to Oldham Magistrates’ Court.

Some drivers just never check their tyres I recently got a driver who is renting one of my vehicles to take it to a garage for servicing they phoned me up to say that two of the tyres were illegal one down to the wire !!!!!!! :-o :x   I was not impressed if the dvla had turned up in town in the week or so prior to that the car would have been ordered off the road.

Its just plain common sense after all its your own life as well as that of the passengers at risk not to mention the loss of earnings if you end up off the road !
