Stats are flexible you can get them to show anything. I prefer actual figures rather than stats.

Is there something wrong with your computer that you can't see the actual figures?

I suggest you calculate the percentages of each country and see where the Uk comes compared to the rest, especially the major countries.

So was the 3297 deaths in 2006 not actual

Just to add to this,some 2007 figures from The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency published in the RYA Wavelength magazine (winter 2007).

130,000 All cancers.
120,000 All heart attacks.
100,000 All smoking related illnesses.
30,000 Obesity and unfitness.
20,000 All alcohol related illnesses.
10,000 All accidents.
6,000 Suicide.
4,000 Asthma.
4,000 Accidents in the home.
3,500 Road traffic accidents.
350 Accidents at work.
150 Adventure Activity accidents.
24 Leisure boating activities.

That's exactly the point they don't have as many speed cameras and I suspect some don't have any.

These countries have reduced deaths on the road by other means and considering the uk has the most speed cameras per head of population anywhere in the world then it has to make you wonder why we are practically at the bottom of the league for reducing deaths.

The proliferation of speed cameras in this country is never ending but would we be better off folling the model of these other countries?

Evidence that oversupply of speed cameras have little effect when it comes to reducing deaths. change the data reference to victims killed per million and then compare the UK record since 1995 to 2006 with the other countries listed.

It appears that we actually had 3297 deaths in 2006 which is lower than 1995 and the fact that it looks less per million doesn't make it so. The figures are high especially compared to the likes of Malta with only 10 which becomes 25 per million surely thats just guess work and it doesn't surprise me Italy has the highest deaths in this chart. Interesting chart though and it depends what you want it for as to how you use it

For example 12.4% reduction for the uk and over 50% reduction for Holland. It's pretty simple to work out percentages. Regards JD

It unfortunately demonstrates, with statistical evidence, what type of idiots we have running the country. Its a good job one of them saved the world recently, perhaps he should tell the car workers in Sunderland what a good job he's done? regards CC

Infact in real terms road deaths would have increased Considerably over the Period 1995 to 2006..the only thing thats pegged them back to a Similar level is safer car design and advances in Medical emergency Knowhow. it surely Proves that far from saving lives speed cameras only serve to compound the problem of road safety by means of Diverting attention away from the real causes of Vehicle accidents. We all know cameras are all about generating income and little to do with real safety...another Nulab Lie, if they really wanted to save lives they'd invest in better Policing of our roads to catch the Killer drivers..

The is a survey being carried out on behalf of the British Government by the EU experts in road traffic management............... it seems the motorway and road design are poor.. including road signs....... but the biggest contributing fault is the lack of safety barriers.
