Out with the pretentious so called " best interests at heart for the trade" investment bankers, after only been in the trade 5 min's, the paint on The Thinkers badge hasn't even dried yet.
The common denominator been, all owner drivers and having to put the hours in and actually do the job, yes deregulation!

Dundee has Deregulation and it has split the trade big time now we have the wavs and saloons. I think Dundee city council have caused this divide because they no there is no unity.

The difference been here, loads of money in renting plates, now £240 per week, and still easy to earn £700 a week if you put in at least 9 hours a day, but i would rather put my £240 rent that i pay to the self deluded plate owners in this town, towards a modern wheel chair accessible vehicle in any Black/Red/White/Pink.

But now we have the council saying that they may not issue the next new licenses because of the financial climate and after consultation with the trade, the trade been plate owners sat on their bums reaping in excessive rents of the likes of poor old me, yet this council in York waste money on surveys, which are inaccurate and and don't represent the real picture.

And no i am not one of them that was to be issued with a plate, but would like to see the trade mean the trade, not pension fund managers pretending to be the trade, that this council is so keen to listen to.

Dundee still has a problem with plate hiring and people are still putting on phv.There is not enough work in dundee to not have a limit on the number of licenses being granted the pie is only so big.

If thats the case apply for a license and challenge the council.....they did in Trafford and Stockport and were successful.

But be weary of failure, it could cost you dearly.

I dont think it would be a failure, even the council know they would lose, they just use that threat to keep the trade in order since the trade has to much to lose in plate values

Oh I can give a better service...... Yeah right, if locally is anything to go by it'd be a fleet of smashed up bulbless, cum stained unhoovered seats etc floating about.

If you wanna plate and you are still regulated, buy one like everyone else does, if your area is still providing seven hundred quid a week it won't take long to pay the loan back will it.

Unless they rent your cars, then they are more than welcome.

It ain't the councils, it's the stooopid Labour party, I was told back in 1989 never vote Labour if you are a Hackey driver for the very reasons of what has happened, it's another excuse to keep the dole numbers down as the first thing you get asked at the job centre is can you drive, here go get a taxi licence, every town is suffering from lack of rank space, so it's an excellent idea to add to the problem isn't it ? NOT!


I'm not sure how RBS comes into it, I'm just one guy trying to make a living in an erroding market, in my time doing the job I've seen meddling from ppl who have no clue about the job and all and sundry jumping into my pocket for money, I paid for my plate, so yes I would be miffed to see it's value taken away, perhaps if I clear the MP's homes out one night and blag it all in the pub perhaps they will understand how many a cabby has been made to feel since this dereg policy has been in place.

Probably best that you sell up now while you still can. After all why would you want to carry on working in this game.

I ask myself that almost every night, when I started it was something to earn with without having someone over your shoulder all night, now it's gradually becoming a job, shift systems, rules, jaywalker on every corner, I guess the only reason I stick with it is because I have mouths to provide for, and I just love to hear the unemployed tarts telling me about how they're off to Mingerloof for the third time this year next week.

Perhaps you should consider becoming an unemployed tart?
