Drunk foots bill after kicking in taxi door

Drunk Luke Peters kicked a taxi door when the cabbie wouldn't take him back to a night club. Now Peters, of Grange Way, Rochester has to pay a £765 repair bill after admitting criminal damage at Canterbury Magistrates Court.

Julie Farbrace, prosecuting, said Peters, 22, was picked up with two girls outside the Talk of the Town nightclub in Herne Bay. He was taken to one of the girls' homes but they didn't have enough money for the fare. Peters began shouting and swearing and was told to shut up.

Miss Farbrace said:"He wanted to be taken to the Talk of the Town but didn't have any money so the driver refused. Peters walked around the front of the vehicle and kicked the door. "The driver told the police, who noticed a dinner plate sized dent in the door."

When they arrived at the police station Peters said he couldn't remember being arrested because he was so drunk. Peters, who pleaded guilty, said he was sorry for what he had done. "When I have too much drink I get out of control," he said.

Chairman of the Bench Kenneth London said:"This was a stupid act on your part. You had better make sure you sort out the compensation otherwise you could find yourself in prison." Peters was fined £100 and ordered to pay £60 costs plus £15 victim surcharge.
