Man has failed to get PH licence back

A TAXI driver who assaulted the headteacher at his son’s school has failed in his bid to overturn his licence revocation.

Michael Evans, 41, will now no longer be allowed to work as a cabbie.

Mr Evans, who operates the taxi firm Silverfox from his home at Holly Street, Rhydyfelin, appeared before Rhondda Cynon Taf council’s licensing committee in December following his conviction at Rhondda Magistrates Court in October.

The court heard that the taxi owner attacked Gwilym Alun Rees, the headteacher of Ysgol Heol y Celyn where his son attends, in front of pupils and on school grounds last year.

His joint Hackney licence was revoked by RCT’s licensing committee, which decided that Mr Evans was no longer a “fit and proper person” to work as a private hire driver.

In the appeal hearing, magistrates said they would back the council’s decision to ban Mr Evans from operating his taxi.

They told the hearing: “We are of the view that as a result of his conviction and the circumstances of the conviction, he is not a fit and proper person to hold such a licence.”

David Jones, head of protection at RCT council, said he was pleased that the licensing committee had been supported.

“Our decision was taken following a full and lengthy consideration of the facts,” he said.

The council was awarded £120 costs.
