On Saturday night a driver was assaulted after taking a fare 18 miles to Kelso.
on arrival the passenger accused the driver of nicking his phone, and punched him in the mouth.
The passenger then threw £50 at the driver and said that was for the punch, the driver said he was calling the police so the passenger gave him another £20 this was already on top of the £30 fare.
The driver still called the police and they came within 5 mins, and arrested him for the assault
The extra money was taken in evidence by the police
The outcome will be in this weeks or next weeks southern reporter

Well done to him for not doing what some would do and take it, and well done to the police for coming so quickly. =D> =D>

Just think Skippy, if he had been driving an LTI Taxi he would'nt have been accused of the phone theft as the passenger is seperated from the driver, and the driver would'nt have been hit as there's a nice screen between him and the knob in the back.

It wasn't old Boggy driving was it?

If you see the way some ppl talk to their customers you can see why this sort of thing happens, I'm not saying this case is because of that, but if the bloke was drunk and had lost his phone and knew he had it when he got in it's not inconcievable that he lost the plot and assumed the driver had nicked it, *which happened locally last week* while a customer was getting some more money from indoors and left the phone as security the driver had it on his toes, *shabby imo* cheap change, the fact the bloke offered that amount of money on top of the fare suggests to me he knew he'd messed up and was trying to make good, personally I think I'd take the money in that situation unless I thought he was a mental thug who could be a risk to someone else in future, but I think reading between the lines the beer played it's part, and me being me can fully understand the red mist moment that happened, not to excuse it, but it does happen and it's a rare case that the aggressor tries to make good.
