To court! Taxi trade needs to do more

Well you certainly have to ask the question about that taxi trade demonstration back on the 5th of February 2009, yes the one where up to 8,000 taxi-cabs turned up behaved in a peaceful manner and then went back to work.

Could that have been the problem the taxi-cab drivers are law abiding citizens and actually left the centre of London because they needed to get back to work and they didn’t want to upset the travelling public at rush hour ?

I though expected much more from our Mayor Boris Johnson, not just “the cabbies are right about road works”. I actually expected him to get to grips with transport for London and the Public Carriage Office, maybe even listen to a few of the sensible taxi-cab drivers and not the usual suspects who allege to represent us but fail to deliver on any pledge or promise they make.

Yes I’m sorry to say this but the 5th of February 2009 was more about covering up the lack of action or work by certain organisations rather than dealing with the problems the trade actually faces.

I along with many other taxi-cab drivers who work nights see the law broken literally every 500ft, the illegal ranking is happening all over London and the licensing authority do nothing, yes absolutely nothing about this problem.

The director of mini-cabs must at some point accept the blame for he is in charge at the PCO and therefore he must have ok’d this policy of “mini-cab offices in your back garden”, sorry bar, nightclub or where ever you can stick one.

If our largest trade organisation can’t bring it upon themselves to take a trip to court to seek judicial review then maybe a few of us drivers should consider a visit to the small the small claims court where we could seek compensation from TfL and the Metropolitan Police for loss of earnings. Remember they are the authorities with the legal powers to stop this madness.

Now this sort of action will need evidence and we shall need to prove the authorities are not stopping the illegal activities of operators and ranking of mini-cabs outside various venues within the capital, but maybe all the video evidence that Thomas the taxi collated, plus those DVD’s created by the LTDA could be used to prove that even after complaints were received by the licensing authority that very little seems to have changed out here on the streets and roads of London.

Let’s hope that the 5th of February was a day to remember after all......

You mean John 'nothings good enough for me' Kennedy? :D

That's Mr A's new partner in crime, they're going to steer the whole trade in the right direction, I'm sitting back and awaiting the outcome.

I feel I may take root though.
