This is unofficial news and spoken to me 2nd hand, but it would seem the PH are also struggling now, the major firm locally I've been told have suspended taking on anymore owners both PH & HC for 6 months due to the current climate, there is another factor, the firm contains I believe 3 *plate barons* as it's put here, PH plate barons btw and they have numerous empty seats right now so the only way a new face will appear on the firm is if they drive for one of these ppl at this time I'm led to believe. |

Well I don't think it's that rosey for them tbh, between the 3 barons they equate to 60% of the fleet, I saw another guy try this about 15 years ago and he went pop in the end through lack of drivers and expenditure outweighing income, if it's happening here it must be happening elsewhere, besides if it was down to me any individual would only be able to hold 5 licences max unless that individual owned a firm, and even then I would suggest a figure of between 20-50 max depending on local conditions. |

above 5 (ish) cars it doesnt make sense to be a radio-renter, when a base and ops could be cheaper i think the guys concerned will have a good idea if its worth being there |

I would be very surprised if PH aren't struggling as much as their hackney brothers.
And if PH firms are not taking on more PH, then well done to their owners.

i think the guys concerned will have a good idea if its worth being there The 3 I'm on about own 150 cars each or thereabouts, now that drivers are realising 4.50ph minus fuel isn't the way forward if you wanna eat they are chucking it in, thought about it myself a lot recently, 21 quid for 4 hours work last night, whatever will I do with it all? I know, 10 pints at Witherspoons later |

Well they haven't stopped taking on drivers in my neck of the woods. There is one company I know will never stop taking on drivers and I haven't heard of many leaving the trade either. There's lots of moaning going on though and drivers working silly hours to make up their money. It would be nice if the PH operators would reduce the settle a little bit but I can't see that happening

![]() Or possibly the operators might run a promotion or two, maybe spend some extra money on advertising, or just try something different to the competition, you never know the drivers/owners may even end up increasing their takings by doing so.

They generally work one week per month

![]() surely you mean BASE owners, as operating a circuit is not the sole domain of a PH outfit anyway..... |

They generally work one week per month ![]() There are definitely bad operators out there, i don't deny that, but you also need to consider that there are a few good one's too, some of us actually realise that the better our drivers do the better we as operators do. My highest priority's are: 1. My customers are taken care of. 2. My drivers are taken care of. 3. My office staff are taken care of. This job isn't brain surgery, it's actually very simple when you apply a little common sense, oh and by the way I've had 3 day's off in the last 2 month's and I'm supposed to be winding down and taking things a little easier this year! Another option for you would be to give it ago yourself if you think you can do a better job than your current operator, why wouldn't you? That's what i did and i did it with less than £500 in the bank. All thing's considered it was the best 500 quid i ever spent, if you can't beat us, join us, you never know you might be good at it and show all the bad op's the error of their way's. |

Sounds like a plan, who knows what my future holds, it's not like I don't have the business experience
