Meter plan angers taxi drivers

Cabs in part of Lancashire will have to fork out for new calendar controlled meters.

Wyre Council has decided to make the new taxi meters mandatory in hackney carriages and private hire vehicles.

They automatically change tariffs to cover late night charges and special tariffs to deal with Christmas, New Year and Bank Holidays.

But the idea has sparked anger among some cab bosses, who are looking at a bill of £300 to fit each meter.

Taxi licence holders in the borough now have until January 1, 2012, to get the meters fitted.

No, but they can stipulate which meters may go into a local PH if the owner chooses to have a meter.

And the way to beat time controlled meters....... multi drop after midnight stop the meter and clear it when the first punter gets out restart as a new job and keep doing this till you get to the final drop. 3 drops 3 jobs! That's how some of them do it here :evil:

If the council licence the PHV's, surely they have the power to force meters on PHV.

The Digitax F2 RTC £290 inc fitting and VAT (£252 plus vat) get £75 for your old one and claim the vat back off the new one.... £177 less 22% tax relief off the £252 (£55 tax saving) £122 to pay and 36 months to save up for it, put £3.50 PCM aside....

Can a council really force meters on PHV, it is an optional extra here, if fitted though it has to be tested by the council.

Im cheaper than a hack with a meter so a meter would be a pay rise... bring it on!

Why do you think that, the council doesnt set PH rates your company does, and i cant see how a council can dictate meter fitting when they have no control of the fares.
