Mad skip, £70 for a spewer great, get two a night anyer sorted   but what about the 25% night rate?? The council should be sent a bunch of roses not moaned to by short-sighted operators. All I heard for the last 5 years has been shouting all over the country for the rates should go up.

Whats wrong with charging more for unsociable hours?

The reason we have extra charges for unsociable hours is to encourage cab drivers to work.

We have a 50% uplift for 'unsocial' hours.

I have just come in for a coffee, and there are 62 cabs doing nothing, 8 on the rank the rest waiting to get on in a car-park 300 yards away, most of the borders working population are on the minimum wage, so they don't have the finances most only ever go out one night a week as that's all they can afford.
If we accept this rise it will kill us all, it bad enough now for most of them

Does it matter if you accept the rise, you don't have to charge it, that's the maximum charge. The fare can be discounted so what's the problem :?

Thin end of the wedge, toots. Start doing that on the rank and the guys will end up cutting each others' throats for every job.

No one has said there is anything wrong with charging more for unsociable hours. It seems only the taxi operators in the paper extract[Quote Graham Grey] But when you get a council who are leading on it they should be supported by their own licensed taxis. The operators just give out the work they aren't the ones who are out there at 2am taking the drunks home.
