Taxi driver rapped for having a smoke in cab A TAXI driver caught puffing away in his taxi alone has become the first person in Southend to be prosecuted for smoking in a public place. Paul Sutton, the chairman of Southend Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association, was fined £150 for smoking in his cab. A council health and safety worker spotted Sutton, 58, of Victoria Road, Southend, as he drove along Queensway. He admitted he had been smoking, although added he had no recollection of what he had done on that day. But the cabbie says he has now kicked the habit and taken to smoking an electronic cigarette in his car. |

A bar owner has found a loop hole in the law as long as the room does not have direct access to a bar folk are free to smoke I don't think that one works. |

A bar owner has found a loop hole in the law as long as the room does not have direct access to a bar folk are free to smoke The smoker probably failed to pay the fixed penalty ticket Skippy, like so many others reported on here, and was then taken to Court. Evidence, if ever it was needed, that smoking destroys brain cells at a very rapid rate. There most be a dozen or more examples on here where drivers have been fined hundreds of pounds because they ignored the fixed penalty ticket. Muppets. |

That doesn't make it legal. It will have to be tested in court first. I would guess that she won't win. The ban has been in place for nearly 2 years now and I think if it were legal then it would have been found before now. |

Cos he went to court where any fine will be based on his income. |
