Detectives are anxious to trace the impersonator in case he is dangerous. Few details are available about the incident, although it is known the woman was not threatened or manhandled. He did not charge a fare. She alerted police after hailing a taxi which she later discovered was carrying no plates or signs to indicate it was a licensed vehicle. Det Con Caroline Knight, of Torbay CID, said: "Obviously we are quite concerned. It does appear the woman was taken home by a bogus taxi driver. We want people to contact us if they know of someone acting as a taxi driver and picking up females." DC Knight can be contacted on 01803 841578. |
