Loss for black cab manufacturer

The maker of the black taxi cab, Manganese Bronze, has reported a half-year loss, but says that international sales will help to lead a turnaround.

The company said it made a pre-tax loss of £0.6m in the first six months of the year, compared with a profit of £1.5m a year earlier.

It said the recession had hit UK sales but it expected significant international sales later this year.

The firm has a joint venture to build the iconic cars in China.

The venture with Geely will make 8,000 cabs for China and other overseas markets.

Chief executive John Russell said this would provide the platform for future profits, with the very first export order already on its way to the Middle East.

"Prospects are very encouraging," he told the BBC. "We're confident that our export sales will match our UK sales in the second half."

In the UK, he said that taxi drivers were not committing to buying new vehicles because of the recession.

There's hundreds in London.

I'll probably have a '10' plate, or whichever format they are going to use to fit 2010 onto an index plate?

Whether it will have an LTI (Or is it LTC now?) badge on the front is another question.
