Govt invites taxi compo claims
The Government has invited submissions for compensation from taxi drivers who feel deregulation of the industry caused them excessive financial hardship.
Under the Taxi Hardship Payments Scheme, payments from E3,000 to E15,000 will be made to taxi-drivers who can show that they suffered following the loss of income arising from deregulation on November 21, 2000.
Some 2,006 submissions were made by taxi licence-holders to the Taxi Hardship Panel when it was compiling its report last year.
However, the panel warned at the time that it was unlikely that all of these licence-holders would be able to back up a claim for hardship.
