Stretch limo warning as parties approach


PARTY-GOERS are being warned to be careful when hiring stretch limousines for special events.

The advice has been issued by the Southend Crime and Disorder Partnership as people begin to plan festive parties and school proms.

The law requires all limo-style vehicles to be properly licensed, and whatever their size, not carry more than eight passengers.

However, many of these vehicles being offered for hire are unlicensed, meaning the driver is unlikely to have the correct insurance or have had any criminal record or medical checks. Also the vehicle may not be subject to regular mechanical examinations and could be unroadworthy.

Ian Robertson, Southend councillor for public protection, said: “People tend to start booking now for forthcoming festive events and proms, so it is crucial they check that the vehicles they want to use will be licensed ones.

People are advised to check a business has a private hire vehicle licence. This means the vehicle is properly covered and the driver is checked.

Another council that doesn't know the law! Apart from the self drive bit. Vehicles with a COIF can carry over 8 passengers.

It doesn't matter how many there are. Now there are some the information is incorrect.
Excusions have been getting Coifs for a couple of years now and Danny is COIFing around 3 Hummers a week at the moment.
