Silloth cabbie firm to expand

A FLEDGLING Silloth taxi firm is bucking the recession and expanding its enterprise after less than one year in business.

Bucking the trend: Allan Hamilton and Wendy Jameson Last December Wendy Jameson and Allan Hamilton revived the town cab firm run by their family 25 years ago.

Able Travel has now expanded taking on staff and new vehicles.

Mr Hamilton, 46, said: “You are doing well just to survive the recession, but we have been able to take on local labour.

“We have built up a regular client base in Silloth which has certainly helped.

The firm, which began with two vehicles, will soon have doubled its fleet by including a new disabled access vehicle. A local driver has joined the ranks and Mr Hamilton is looking to employ further local staff in the future.

Able Travel has also won contracts with schools and social services. The couple have also diversified and take holiday makers on tours through the Lake District.

“You just have to be a bit cautious in a recession, but I’m expanding as the need grows,” added Mr Hamilton.

Such a small, sleepy, seaside place & now they have an expanding taxi service.

Have all the pensioners started going to all-night raves?

They'll be giving you competition in Carlisle soon, Captain!!!
