Acid Attack On Bay Cabbie's Car
Thursday, October 22, 2009
Cabbie Harry Orwell is likely to be off the road for a week after an acid attack on his taxi.
The paintwork on his four-year old silver grey Toyota Avensis was damaged by a corrosive liquid after it was left overnight outside his home in Kents Road, Torquay.
It is expected to cost about £3,000 to repair.
The paint on the bonnet and boot of the Torbay Council-registered Hackney cab has blistered. Mr Orwell, who is an independent cabbie and has been running his own business TBay Taxi for the last two years, said: "I think it happened around 2am or 3am on Tuesday. I don't really know as it was OK when I left it at 10pm on Monday night.
"It is going to cost me thousands to have it repaired. It is going to need a complete re-spray. I may be off the road for about a week.
"I am insured for the damage, but I don't know about the loss of earnings and I will have to check my insurance policy. It is not just the loss of money which concerns me but the loss of customers if I am off the road."
Police say there are no suspects, no witnesses or CCTV evidence to track those responsible.
A spokesman said: "We are investigating and any information how every small would be welcome."
