Jump taxi queue and you could lose your licence

FERNDOWN taxi drivers are getting a new system next month to try and make queuing more fair - and anyone who breaks the new rules could have their licences suspended.

East Dorset district councillors were told that an increased number of taxis use the Victoria Road rank, but there have been problems with taxis waiting to use the facility including taxis “racing” to a vacant space.

Groups had been working together to “monopolise” the ranks, others had queued behind taxis already on the rank, and there were sometimes four taxis trying to squeeze onto the two spaces, an earlier meeting had been told.

Councillors were also told that some taxis had been parking in private car parks to be near the rank, upsetting business owners, and the licensing officer had spent a considerable amount of time trying to mediate between disputes.

Councillors agreed to introduce a series of conditions for the new feeder rank being introduced to Princes Road.

The feeder rank will operate a first on, first off basis, and hackney carriage drivers who want trade on the Victoria Road rank will have to first drive to the feeder rank to join the queue.

I honestly don't believe that places like this can be so far behind the times..... it makes you think that their licensing enforcement team, has been asleep in a cupboard for a great many years... and that recently somebody had stumbled across them...... feeder ranks, we've been using them for over 15 years , and we even have feeder ranks for our feeder ranks .... main rank 12 cabs, first feeder rank 8 cabs. next feeder rank 8 cabs.. and so on.....

Except they shouldn't be called feeder ranks ..... they should be called 'go hungry ranks'.

When they are busy, the first cab leaves every 90 seconds.... when it is slow they're not getting moved on or being issued parking tickets.... you can't please everybody all of the time.
