![]() Ian Stewart (Eccles, Labour) To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office what contracts her Department has with private hire taxi companies; and what information her Department holds on such contracts held by other Government departments. ![]() Angela Smith (Minister of State (Third Sector), Cabinet Office; Basildon, Labour) The Cabinet Office has one contract for the provision of taxi services—this is with Addison Lee and it is used for most pre-booked journeys where public transport is deemed unsuitable, for example due to unsociable hours or a lack of available alternatives. |

They're just being generic in their term for 'taxis'. I suppose it's always going to happen whilst we have two systems offering the same service |

By John Mason. He stated PCO Notice 29-09 that: “All operators are reminded that they are not permitted to use the terms ‘cab(s)’, ‘taxi(s)’ or any words closely resembling these terms in advertisements and that they must comply with section 31 of the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998.” There have been many examples of the word “taxi” being used to describe private hire minicabs over the past few years. It is particularly common on the internet where putting the word “taxi” into a search engine will bring results of private hire companies. At the time of going to print, the ASK search engine immediately listed companies such as Addison Lee, Speedicars, Liberty Cars and Reflection Cars when “taxis in London” was put in a search. |
