Eastwood taxi charity man to get MBE

THE president of the Southend Taxi Drivers Charity Fund is set to meet the Queen to be made an MBE.

Brian Houssart, 75, of Glenwood Avenue, Eastwood, will be presented with his insignia on Tuesday, November 24, for his 37 years’ service to the charity.

The Southend Taxi Drivers’ Charity provides days out for sick and disabled youngsters.

The honour was announced in June and Mr Houssart says he has been granted a further honour by the palace. He said: “Normally they only allow you to be a party of four, but I have three children as well as my wife Heather. They’ve allowed me to take all of them.”

In June, he admitted bursting into tears when the letter arrived confirming his honour.

He added: “I had to read the letter three times to convince myself it was genuine.”

His only regret was that Heather, 80, the charity’s secretary and part of the family team, did not have her work recognised in the same way.
