Police in Glasgow are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed in the city.
At around 00.45am on Tuesday, the 61-year-old driver was working in the city’s east end. He picked up two males in Sandiefield Road in the Gorbals. The men then assaulted him in the city’s Troon Street.
They dragged the driver from his car and attempted to force him in to the boot of the vehicle. They then stole the grey coloured Skoda Octavia taxi together with a sum of cash.
The suspects thereafter made off with the vehicle which was later recovered outside Parkhead Welding in the city’s Baltic Street. The taxi driver attended at Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated for his injuries.
The first suspect is described as white, around five feet ten inches tall, in his late teens or early 20s. He has been described as gaunt and had a moustache. He was wearing a Berghaus-style jacket, jeans and a light coloured baseball cap.
The second suspect was also white, a little smaller than the first suspect and also in his late teens to early 20s. He was also wearing a cap and a blue blue/grey Berghaus jacket.
Detective Sergeant Aileen Boyle said: "This was an extremely traumatic experience for the taxi driver who was going about his normal business.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of, Sandiefield Road, Troon Street or Baltic Street around the time of this incident and who may have seen the suspects before or after the robbery to contact me at London Road CID on 0141 532 4636 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained."
