A CABBIE has been stripped of his licence for abusing three partially-sighted pensioners.

Private hire driver Elyas Haidari was recorded swearing at the women passengers on a camera installed inside his vehicle.

At one point, he was heard to say: “You die tonight.”

His licence was taken away in the first use of new “taxicam” evidence by city council bosses.

Licensing committee chairman Councillor Brian Parnell described Mr Haidari’s behaviour as “truly shocking”.

I have always said that the cameras are there to protect not only the driver but the passengers as well.He must have been thick not to realizes he had a camera in his car.

If using cctv, don't you need to have a sign saying so? If the vehicle had got the sign then he is notonly thick but can't read either. If there was no sign, should the evidence have been used?

Another reason to make CCTV compulsory.

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the word CABBIE imply hackney driver and should not be used to describe a PH DRIVER

round here there have been dozens of cases of drivers verbally abusing customers but the council and police are scared of being accused of racism if they pursue the case perhasps compulsory cameras might be useful in these parts

Maybe that should be pointed out to the national press this morning the sun, the mirror and the daily mail are all running the story about a taxi driver.
