Vauxhall cabbie tried to jump from speeding car

Monday, 28 September 2009

A COP screamed in “terror” after an unlicensed minicab driver tried to leap from a speeding car, a court heard.

Abdi Cibaar, of Laud Street, Vauxhall, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court last week, charged with dangerous driving.

The 39-year-old was pulled over by Clapham officers PC Sharp and PC Davis as part of an anti-touting operation in Clapham High Street.

The officers boarded Mr Cibaar’s Ford Galaxy before the driver sped away.

The court heard how officers tussled with Cibaar, desperately trying to force him to stop the speeding car before it hit other road users.

They pulled the handbrake of the car – only to discover that it didn’t work.

PC Davis said: “He was wailing and groaning.

“We were both screaming for him to stop the car.

“I thought he was going to deliberately crash.

“I’ve never been more terrified.

“I was convinced someone would be killed.

“I could see vehicles outside.

“As they passed by I knew it was only a matter of seconds before we hit something.”

The car came to a stop when Cibaar was pulled into the back seats by the officers at around 1.30am on March 23 last year.

District Judge Caroline Tubbs said: “You drove dangerously and put the lives of two police officers and other people at great risk.”

Cibaar was jailed for 20 weeks for dangerous driving and fined £515 for driving without insurance.

I thought the report said he was an unlicenced driver :?

By virtue of the fact he was touting outwith the terms of his Minicab pre-booked only license, I guess he would be regarded as such.

The PCO website says otherwise though.

I guess that could be the case, but, generally reporters don't get that kind of information right. They can barely tell the difference between the two sides of the trade as it is

Greig abusing the PCO public database, the story clearly states the driver was unlicensed. Enlighten us with your more detailed knowledge of the case to show the driver was licensed.

Yet another true professional Minicab driver.

The chap above is a true minicab (licensed London PH) driver, but that doesn't mean he is the chap quoted in the article, just means he shares a name.

Again not a unique situation.

Well why would the court mention unlicensed if the chap accused by Mr GBC is licensed? :?

In any event this is a court report from September, if the person was licensed they would no longer be on the PCO public database as the licenced would have been revoked .The database is updated daily.

So we have a story of a man in a car driving off, GBC picks a name of a database with no evidence it is the same person accuses them of breaking the law.
