Taxi driver's neck slashed in attempted robbery in Swansea

A TAXI driver was slashed on the neck in an attack in Swansea.

The 54-year-old was driving a Yellow Cabs taxi when he was summoned to Townhill Road at around 2.55am on Monday, March 22, to pick up a male passenger.

Officers believe the taxi stopped near to the Eagle Service Station in Llangyfelach Road where the passenger got out momentarily.

He returned a short time later and the taxi continued its journey to Roger Street in Treboeth.

On arrival in Roger Street, as he was getting out from the rear of the taxi, the passenger attacked the driver from behind and demanded money. The driver began to drive away and the attacker fled empty-handed.

Following the attack, the victim discovered he had sustained a laceration to his neck for which he later received treatment at Morriton Hospital.

The attacker is described as being male and wearing a grey hoodie and a multi-coloured Burberry scarf covering his head. He was also wearing dark coloured jeans or tracksuit bottoms

Acting Detective Inspector Keith Morgan said "This was a very frightening experience for the taxi driver who was going about his day to day business."

"I am appealing to anyone with relevant information to come forward, this was a very serious incident, and this individual needs to be apprehended as soon as possible"

Anyone with information should contact Police in Swansea on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0900 555 111.
